Metronoia Set to Conduct its Pro Cup, Includes Teams From all Over Mindanao

Metronoia Cyber Café is about to start one of Mindanao’s largest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive (CS:GO) tournaments for the year 2017.

Dubbed the Metronoia Pro CS Cup, this CS:GO tournament features 10 squads from all over Mindanao, fighting for a prize pool of P50,000 as well as the honor of becoming the tournament’s first-ever champion.

Six teams from the Zamboanga Peninsula, namely FRN, The VapeBar Zamboanga, GGenesis, Clover, ARIS and Metronoia, are slated to take part in the main group stage on December 16. They qualified from a special qualifier held on December 2-3, earlier this year.

In addition to this, Mindanao’s household names such as EZPZ, GNarcoticsPH, Dakingz and G7.FreedomFighters are expected to participate on Saturday.

According to the organizers, they are planning for a “round-robin group stage in which top three from each group will go to the playoffs, along with best-of-three playoffs up to the grand final, which will feature a best-of-five.”

However, they also mentioned that “we will meet up with the teams before the tournament on Friday, December 15, in order to decide on “the final format of the tournament, given the time and security constraints that the region faces at the moment.”

They also added that they hoped that this tournament will serve as a step in ensuring a healthier ecosystem for the Mindanao region, as well as serve as a template on making further tournaments in the future.

Metronoia Cyber Cafe is considered to be one of the best internet cafes in Zamboanga Peninsula, hosting many esports tournaments in the region, as well as having the fastest internet connection available in the peninsula. They also have a professional Counter-Strike team, which is considered to be an up-and-coming squad.

In connection with the “security issues” mentioned, President Rodrigo Duterte has just extended martial law for one year all over Mindanao.

Some of the members of EZPZ are notable for reaching the semi-finals of last year’s Tarlac Esports League (TESL), which is considered to be one of the largest CS:GO tournaments in the country.

The tournament carries a lot of weight as it is one of the few official competitions in Mindanao before the start of the regional qualifiers for the Tarlac Esports League (TESL) in Jaunary 2018.
